Reaching NEOM involves choosing the right combination of international flight, regional connection, and transfer to the specific destination within the NEOM region. This article covers the main options as of 2026 and the trade-offs.
The main airports
Travellers visiting NEOM use one of four main airports.
- NEOM Bay Airport (NUM). The regional airport for the project, operating since 2019. Receives a small but growing number of commercial flights.
- King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) in Jeddah. The principal Saudi Red Sea hub, with onward connections to NEOM.
- King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh. The main Saudi national hub, with the widest range of international flights.
- King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) in Aqaba, Jordan. Across the Gulf of Aqaba from NEOM, sometimes used as an approach.
A larger civilian airport for NEOM is planned to expand commercial capacity as the region opens.
Choosing the right approach
The best routing depends on your departure point, your destination within NEOM, and your travel budget.
- From Europe: direct flights to Jeddah or Riyadh from major hubs, then onward connection to NEOM Bay or surface transfer. Aqaba is also an option via European or regional carriers.
- From the United States: typically through a hub in Europe or the Gulf to Jeddah or Riyadh. Saudi Airlines operates direct flights from select US cities.
- From the Gulf: short flights from Dubai, Doha, Manama, or Kuwait City to either Jeddah or NEOM Bay.
- From Asia: through a Gulf hub to Jeddah, Riyadh, or NEOM Bay.
NEOM Bay Airport
NEOM Bay Airport (IATA code NUM) is the most direct way to reach the project. The airport is integrated with project transfer services and ground transport to NEOM Bay, Sindalah, Trojena, and Magna destinations.
Available connections to NEOM Bay change over time as commercial service expands. Saudia is the primary commercial operator, with selected international carriers also serving NEOM Bay on certain routes.
Onward transfers within NEOM
Once at NEOM Bay or another regional airport, onward transport to specific destinations uses a combination of options.
- To Sindalah: by yacht (around 30 minutes), helicopter (around 10 minutes), or shuttle to a marina followed by a boat transfer.
- To Trojena: by car or shuttle on the new mountain road infrastructure (around 90 to 120 minutes).
- To Magna destinations: by car, shuttle, or yacht along the Gulf of Aqaba coastline.
- To Oxagon: by car or shuttle (around 60 to 90 minutes from NEOM Bay, depending on traffic).
Most luxury accommodation includes transfer services as part of the booking.
Driving to NEOM
It is also possible to drive to NEOM from elsewhere in Saudi Arabia. Roads connect the region with Jeddah (around 8 to 9 hours), Medina, Riyadh (longer), and the wider Saudi highway network.
Cruise access
NEOM is increasingly part of cruise itineraries in the Red Sea. Cruise lines including MSC and others have announced calls at Sindalah and at adjacent ports. Cruise access is a growing option for visitors who want to include NEOM as part of a broader Red Sea or Mediterranean trip.
Booking and planning tips
- Combine an international flight to Jeddah, Riyadh, or NEOM Bay with onward transfer through your accommodation provider.
- Book transfers in advance, particularly for helicopter or yacht options.
- Confirm the latest service before booking, as NEOM Bay routes change.
- Allow extra time for the first and last legs of the journey, particularly through Saudi airports during peak periods.
- Consider weekly carriers that may operate seasonal services to NEOM Bay or Aqaba.
Visa considerations
Travellers need a valid Saudi visa to enter the country, whether they arrive at NEOM Bay or at another Saudi airport. The Saudi e-visa is the most common pathway for tourist visits and can be applied for online in advance. See the visas guide for details.
