Aquellum is one of the most architecturally daring destinations in the Magna cluster at NEOM. Conceived as a vertical city carved into a hollowed mountain on the Gulf of Aqaba, with a covered marina at its base, Aquellum is an entirely interior experience: guests step from a yacht into a concealed waterway and rise through a sequence of public spaces, restaurants, and accommodation built inside the rock.
At a glance
- Location: Gulf of Aqaba coast, NEOM region.
- Form: vertical city inside a hollowed mountain, with a covered marina at sea level.
- Programme: marina, hotel, residential, retail, restaurants, immersive entertainment.
- Position: ultra-luxury, experience-led destination.
The hidden city concept
Aquellum’s design follows a single idea: a city revealed from within. From the outside the destination presents only a mountain face above the Gulf of Aqaba. There is no visible architecture, no buildings, and no obvious entrance. Yachts navigate through a discreet entry into a covered marina at sea level, and from there guests rise through a sequence of interior districts.
The interior is conceived as a complete city in miniature. Vertical circulation links streets, plazas, gardens, and atria carved into the mountain. Daylight is admitted through engineered apertures, with carefully controlled openings creating dramatic light effects as visitors move through the space.
The covered marina
The covered marina is the principal arrival point. Yachts of up to a defined length enter through the rock face into a sheltered basin. The arrival sequence is intended to feel theatrical, with the marina basin opening into the first public spaces of the vertical city above.
The marina itself includes berthing, refuelling and provisioning facilities, a yacht club building, and direct access to the restaurants and hotel above.
The hotel
The Aquellum hotel programme is distributed vertically through the mountain. Rooms and suites are arranged along carved corridors, with views toward interior atria and gardens. Higher floors open to controlled views of the Gulf of Aqaba through engineered apertures in the mountain face.
Restaurants and entertainment
Aquellum’s restaurant collection is set across several of the interior districts. Concepts span international cuisines and signature chef partnerships, with each restaurant taking advantage of a different aspect of the interior architecture.
Beyond dining, the destination hosts an ongoing programme of immersive entertainment, art installations, and curated cultural events distributed through its interior chambers.
How Aquellum fits in Magna
Aquellum is one of the experience-led destinations of the Magna cluster, alongside Utamo and Xaynor. Where Epicon is the iconic skyline and Siranna the integrated cove retreat, Aquellum is the hidden-city revelation. Its concept gives Magna a distinctive offering for guests who want a single-property destination where the architecture itself is the experience.
