What is NEOM?

NEOM is a 26,500 km² region under development in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea coast. It is a flagship of Vision 2030, owned by the Public Investment Fund and organised as a closed joint stock company.

Where is NEOM?

NEOM is in the Tabuk Province of northwest Saudi Arabia. It has frontage on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, borders Jordan, and faces Egypt across the Strait of Tiran.

When was NEOM announced?

NEOM was announced on 24 October 2017 at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

What does NEOM mean?

NEOM combines the Greek word "neo" (new) with the letter M, the first letter of the Arabic word "mustaqbal" (future).

How big is NEOM?

NEOM covers approximately 26,500 square kilometres, larger than Belgium.

What can I visit at NEOM today?

Sindalah opened in October 2024 and accepts guests through its hotels and marina. NEOM Bay Airport receives a small number of commercial flights. Other destinations open commercially in phases through the late 2020s.

When will The Line be finished?

The Line is delivered in phases over a multi-decade timeline. Initial districts open within the decade. The full 170-kilometre vision is a long-term project that extends well beyond 2030.

How much does NEOM cost?

NEOM's headline budget is USD 500 billion. The funding comes principally from the Public Investment Fund, with additional external investment and future capital markets activity planned.
