Utamo: NEOM Magna's Subterranean Entertainment Destination

A guide to Utamo, the subterranean Magna destination at NEOM. Performance venues, restaurants, and immersive entertainment carved into a Gulf of Aqaba mountain.

Utamo is the subterranean entertainment destination of the Magna cluster at NEOM. Carved into a mountainside on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, it combines performance venues, dining, and immersive entertainment spaces inside the natural rock, creating an experience unlike any other resort in the region.

At a glance

  • Location: mountainside on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, NEOM region.
  • Form: subterranean spaces carved into the rock.
  • Programme: theatre, music venue, restaurants, immersive experiences, hotel.
  • Position: a unique entertainment destination within the Magna portfolio.

Architectural concept

Utamo’s design is defined by its decision to go inward rather than outward. Rather than building structures on the landscape, the destination is carved into the mountain itself. Visitors enter through a portal in the rock face and move through a sequence of chambers, each with its own programme and theatrical lighting.

The result is an interior architecture of vast scale, with rooms and galleries that read as natural geological features as much as built environments.

The performance venue

At the centre of Utamo is a major performance venue, built into one of the largest chambers. The venue is designed for concerts, theatre, opera, and immersive performance, with seating and staging configurable for different formats. The acoustic qualities of the rock chamber and bespoke surface treatments together produce a distinctive sound environment.

Dining

Utamo’s restaurant programme is set within the subterranean spaces. Restaurants take advantage of the unusual setting with theatrical lighting, immersive surroundings, and menus inspired by the dramatic context. The line-up spans signature chefs and concepts not available elsewhere in NEOM.

Immersive experiences

Beyond the performance venue and restaurants, Utamo’s chambers host a rotating programme of immersive experiences, art installations, and interactive entertainment. These transform the destination across visits, giving repeat guests reasons to return.

Hotel

Utamo includes a hotel within the subterranean complex. Rooms and suites are positioned along carved corridors, with discreet lighting and finishes that complement the rock setting. The hotel is targeted at guests who want a multi-day stay immersed in the Utamo experience.

How Utamo fits in Magna

Utamo is the entertainment-forward, experience-led destination in the Magna cluster. Where Epicon is the iconic skyline and Siranna is the wellness retreat, Utamo is the dramatic experiential statement. Its scale and concept give Magna a distinct entertainment anchor that complements the cluster’s beach and resort destinations.
